Description
Hurricane Humberto
Humberto has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane. Conditions favor rapid strengthening, with warm waters surrounding it. Forecasts now indicate that Humberto is expected to intensify rapidly, likely reaching major hurricane status by this weekend. The eventual path is likely to take Humberto out to sea next week. Higher surf could impact the US East Coast next week with distant Humberto moving eastward out into the open Atlantic waters.

A tropical wave near Hispaniola and the Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean is becoming more organized. This system is expected to strengthen into a tropical depression later today or over the weekend as it tracks northward across the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, near the Bahamas.
Heavy rain and gusty winds are already affecting Hispaniola and the Turks and Caicos. These impacts will spread into the Bahamas and eastern Cuba over the next couple of days. While the long-range track remains uncertain, the risk of wind, rain, and storm surge impacts along portions of the US Southeast Coast is increasing, and people there should closely monitor this system. Those living along the coast from Virginia to Georgia should watch how this system progresses. If the system moves inland over the US Southeast, it's possible that interior parts of the Southeast could also experience rain impacts.
