Description
The peak of hurricane season is just over a week away and there isn't a lot going on in the tropics. A disturbance just rolled off Africa, and the National Hurricane Center gives it a 70% shot at developing in the next week. It is far too distant to cause us any problems, and the majority of model guidance bends it out into the open Atlantic down the road.
Closer to home, we are still watching the stalled boundaries draped across the Gulf and Atlantic. Right now, the models do not show much energy with them, though both the Euro and GFS hint at a weak low trying to form somewhere along that stretch from the eastern Gulf, over Florida, and off the East Coast. If that happens, upper level steering should nudge it eastward and keep it offshore.
