Description
On August 30, 2005, the true scale of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation began to emerge. This archival WWL-TV coverage documents the day New Orleans learned that the levees had failed.
Floodwaters surged into neighborhoods across the city, submerging 80% of New Orleans. Residents who survived the storm itself now faced a second disaster: rising water, power outages and no clear path to safety.
For many, August 30 was the day they realized New Orleans was underwater.
