By August 31, 2005, New Orleans was in crisis. This archival WWL-TV news coverage documents the desperate hours after Hurricane Katrina when thousands of residents were stranded at the Superdome and Convention Center, waiting for help that seemed slow to arrive.
The humanitarian disaster unfolding in New Orleans was broadcast to the world. This footage shows the human cost of delayed rescue efforts, the suffering of families trapped without food, water, or medicine and the calls for aid that grew louder each hour.
