Description
Unidentified no more: For nearly two decades, Dorothy Virginia Driggers Taquino was buried in the Hurricane Katrina Memorial as one of 84 unidentified storm victims. Her name was lost, her story unfinished.
Until now.
After a WWL Louisiana investigation into the identities of the Katrina Memorial’s unknown victims, a breakthrough emerged: a necklace engraved with the name of her high school became the key to solving a 20-year mystery.
Taquino, 81, was found in her Arabi home after the levees broke in 2005. Her remains were taken to a temporary morgue in St. Gabriel but never positively identified—until St. Bernard investigators reopened the case after our story began asking hard questions.
► In this video, go behind the scenes with the journalists and coroners who worked tirelessly to put a name to a storm victim whose family never stopped wondering.
