Description
We now have Tropical Storm Erin. It is just to the NW of Cabo Verde in the eastern Atlantic. Right now, the intensity forecast indicates it will become our first hurricane and possibly major hurricane by this weekend. The expected track is generally to the west following an upper high to the north. Models are in agreement that the upper high will weaken and turn the storm northwest to north, possibly avoiding the Islands and move in a direction toward Bermuda, so remaining well east of the East Coast. Plenty of time to watch and no threat to the Gulf.
Speaking of the Gulf, the tropical moisture we've been talking about since last week now in the east-central Gulf is being tagged with a 0% chance for development. It's the NHC's way of saying "we're watching it, but it isn't going to do anything."
