Description
Jefferson Parish voters may decide on a firefighter's pay raise if next week’s meeting with parish officials fails to produce a breakthrough, Jefferson Parish East Bank firefighters' union says.
The union says talks have stalled because the administration won’t make a fair offer, and the proposed $10.53 hourly starting pay could soon be decided by the council and then the voters.
The parish says firefighters already earn about $17 per hour with overtime and supplemental pay.
If talks fail, the union could ask the Parish Council to put the issue on the ballot for residents to decide.
