Description
In Martinique, technician Roger Dantin replaces a faulty Takata airbag on a car's dashboard outside a client's home. Part of a mobile unit deployed by the importer of Toyota, Suzuki, Chevrolet, and Lexus vehicles, Dantin says, "In 90 percent of cases, the cars are not roadworthy or they belong to elderly people who cannot travel and do not make long journeys." A number of car models have been under a series of recall orders since 2014 over airbags produced by the Japanese company that are at risk of injuring or killing drivers when they deploy. The Takata brand disappeared in 2018 following a bankruptcy in the wake of the airbag scandal. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
