"I’m lost, I don’t even know what to do anymore": Marie has been living in France for more than a decade with her three children, but the last time she tried to renew her residence permit at the prefecture, her everyday life turned into a living hell. Like her, thousands of foreigners, often long settled in France, find themselves undocumented, losing jobs, housing, and social benefits because of administrative shortcomings that delay the issuance of their new residence card.
