Description
Panga longliners are a relatively new form of fishing on the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Ocean in Mexico. They use motherships that are usually old shrimp trawlers to come back to with their catch. Most of these boats are not licensed in any way and the majority of their catch are Dorado, Marlin, Turtles and other protected species that are essentially reserved for "sports fishing" only by the Mexican Government. They have wiped out many of the huge populations of Dorado in the Sea of Cortez and are now finding fewer fish and their equipment becomes even more poorly maintained over time.
