Kellan Tilton was born with a tumor on his spine and was undergoing chemo at only three days old. Three years later, he is cancer free and managing the construction site of a very important update to his home's backyard
A young boy has been granted a big wish. Three-year-old Kellan Tilton was born with neuroblastoma, a cancerous tumor on his spine. When he was just 3 days old, doctors started chemotherapy. Six months later, Kellan was cancer-free, but was paralyzed from the waist down.
Navigating his wheelchair in the backyard is just one of the many daily struggles for Kellan, but thanks to Make-A-Wish, Kellan has more independence outdoors.
"It is a unique wish. He wanted a path to the barn to help his dad," said Make-A-Wish marketing director, Sonya Purington.
To help make his wish come true, more than half a dozen businesses traveled from southern Maine to build the path. "It's kind of uplifting. He's so bubbly all the time that it makes it that much better," said Stanley Brown, owner of Wireless Construction.
Kellan also gave a helping hand when building his new path, helping out with the excavator and laying down bricks. But it's not just a path he is excited for. "See that big area. That's where my swing set is going to go," he said. This will also him to play with his seven brothers and sisters.
Despite his setbacks, Kellan's parents say he is a very outgoing and independent three-year-old, but this wish is opening a new path.
"To see that smile on his face and hear that excitement, it warms your heart," said Dan Tilton, Kellan's father.
