If it's not full absolution -- it's something.
NATS: 14:03:27 "we the jury find the defendant - not guilty of count one of criminally negligent homicide..."
Not guilty -- not guilty of driving when she should have known better. Not guilty of causing a crash in February of last year that killed a family of five. Randy, Crystaldawn, Sebastian, Darrian and Cyrus Stollsteimer,
10:05 "I just don't see how it's possible to kill 5 people and just walk out and never serve a day in jail..."
For as angry as the Stollsteimer family was -- and yes -- they were angry,
1:27 "it's wrong. This verdict was wrong on all parts and they know it..."
The Chavez family was just as relieved. Her defense had maintained all along that this crash while horrific -- was nothing more than an accident. An accident that could be blamed on no one. Her legs locked after suffering an apparent seizure -- sending her SUV barreling through 84th and Grant at a speed nearing 100 miles an hour.
11:55 "the evidence in this case showed it was a preventable tragedy..."
Adams County District Attorney Don Quick -- defended his offices decision to bring the case to trial in the first place. He said Chavez had a duty to see a neurologist after suffering two apparent seizures prior to the crash.
12:25 "she didn't do to a doctor after the 2010 seizure and she continued to drive..."
But the jury never bought it. Even the judge during the trial -- called some of the evidence -- quote ambiguous.
SOT: 2:31 "I didn't feel good from day one. I just didn't feel good about it. There wasn't any hard evidence if she had seizures, How many seizures..."
CHRIS TAG:
Monica Chavez left the courtroom with her husband. She chose not to comment -- and the same can be said for her attorneys.
The case -- as far as the criminal aspect of it -- is now officially over.
